I went down for my scan, which was different than usual. I'm honestly not sure the lady really knew what she was doing!!! Normally they locate the different planes of the placenta, and record those. Then they do the AFI check, usually using doppler color to make sure that there's no cord floating in the pocket which could skew the result. AFI was fine, like 20cm or something like that, which is a lot, lot higher than my past checks, but whatever. The doppler check was weird too. She never went into the blue/red mode to accurately pinpoint where she was at, and she was so zoomed out, I don't know how it's possible to get an accurate reading. My S/D ratio was 5, 4.8, 5.2 and 4.3, I guess she measured in different spots. I think they take an average, but I'm not sure, the doc hasn't been in to talk about that.
Then she did a trans-vaginal cervical check. WEIRD. All my other scans have been able to show my cervix trans-abdominally. When I was down in delivery on Saturday, the doc could see my cervix clear as day "oh yeah, it's totally open". But then this tech went on about how she couldn't see my cervix at all with the normal transducer, and then when she got all up in my lady parts with her probe, she said that it looked like it was about 2cm and closed. Now, I will never, ever claim to know more about this shit than they do, but when you've had as many ultrasounds as I've had (I stopped counting after 20+) you start to know what's right and what's not. What she was measuring didn't look like cervix. She said that it was 2cm and closed. I told her that sounded weird because my check on Saturday night showed it was dilated 2cm, and was about 1.5cm long. She said "Oh, well they check from the outside, we measure from the inner os to the outer os"... She was seriously trying to tell me the mfm that did my scan on Saturday (with physical evidence from the vaginal exam) didn't know what she was talking about!
Sigh.
I don't know who to believe. The one who tickled Ellie's feet, or the one who says (as I'm lying with my butt above my head and no pressure on my cervix whatsoever) that things are just as they should be for almost 30 weeks.
Where is that magic crystal ball?!
